Training and Style

My teaching of yoga comes from a deep place of healing. Having practiced Bikram yoga for 10 years, and finding that as my body changed with the years, my practice also changed.  Some days I love a hot room. Some days I prefer a cooler room. Lately I have begun to study and practice Yoga Nidra, both with Restorative postures and with Asana.  The work of Yoga Nidra mimics much of the work that comes from using Flower Essences.  With Yoga Nidra we release physical/muscular, emotional and mental tension. Some of the benefits of Yoga Nidra are better sleep, more focused concentration, pain relief, and greater creativity.  The physical benefits of a regular asana practice are improved flexibility and strength as well as a calmer mind. In any class I teach, I encourage people to modify as they need, to come into sensation that feels nourishing, never to sensation that is pain.  I believe in assisting people to trust themselves to become their own teacher and the expert of their own body and own mind.

On Monday Evenings I teach an Asana-Restorative Class with Yoga Nidra.  I have volunteered on Riker’s Island where I have most recently been working in the nursery with incarcerated mothers and I work with people in the community affected by incarceration using Trauma Informed Yoga through Liberation Prison Yoga.  I enjoy working with people individually to find a  yoga practice that works for them and give them tools to find their own healing.

My yoga training includes 200 hr Evolution Training, 200 hr Sacred Brooklyn Training (Love you Dara, Stephanie and Rachel!!), Rainbow Kids Yoga Training, Yoga for All with Diane Bondy and Amber Karnes, Liberation Prison Yoga, Birthlight Pre and Post Natal Yoga and Yoga Nidra with Mona Anand.

Bring: Yourself!! Your Breath, Pillows, Blankets, towels, warm socks, washcloth or eye pillow, Yoga blocks or big books, open hearts and open minds and Love.

Any level welcome. Come for Asana (movement), Restorative (letting go of tension) and Nidra (letting go of even more tension and while an advanced technique, no experience is required)
